Good as I Been to You

Solo guitar and harmonica return alongside inherited songs. The absence of new compositions does not mean the absence of invention: breaths, pacing and rough fingerwork rearrange tradition. Old stories happen again in a particular voice.

Jim Jones

An old song, sounding now

An old ballad of exile, just guitar and voice. No new compositions does not mean no invention: breaths, dragged beats and rough fingerwork rearrange the ancient story. The narrator’s guilt and grievance are sung as if they happened yesterday.

The record makes inherited songs events again. It invites comparative listening: the same story has been told by many voices, and this voice’s distinction lies precisely in not trying to be distinctive.
